Apac Municipality MP aspirant Hon. Maxwell Akora contributed a total of over UGX 6 million on Sunday, April 27, 2025, during a fundraising event at St. John Church of Uganda, Awiri Parish Headquarters, Awiri Archdeaconry, Diocese of West Lango, in Arocha Division, Apac Municipality.
Odur Peter, the Deputy Mayor of Apac Municipal Council, assured the congregation during the ceremony that the current administration leading Apac Municipality has done more than enough to boost development, including raising the standard of education in several schools.
During the event, the six parishes under the Archdeaconry made several contributions both in cash and kind. Several pledges were also made toward the completion of the archdeacon’s residential house.

St. Phillip Church of Uganda contributed UGX 45,000

Acekene St. Thomas C.O.U contributed UGX 67,000

St. John Awiri C.O.U, represented by Magoba Denis, contributed over UGX 700,000 through various church groups.
His Worship Patrick Ongom Eyul, the Mayor of Apac Municipality, urged members and leaders not to politicize the fundraising. He outlined several achievements by his administration, including street light installation and road opening. He also reiterated that he will contest under the UPC ticket for Mayor of Apac Municipality for the 2026–2031 term.
Since 2011, Hon. Maxwell Akora has made significant contributions during his time as MP for both Apac Municipality and Maruzi County.
Rev. Tom Denis Okumu prayed for harmony among all political parties—UPC, NRM, and others—emphasizing that all are children of God regardless of party affiliation. He noted it was his first time seeing an MP honor a church invitation, stating, “I can tell you, we studied the relationship between church and politics.”
Awiri Church of Uganda has over 200 registered Christian members. According to Magoba Denis, they aimed to raise close to UGX 10 million for the completion of the archdeacon’s house, which would help in purchasing building materials such as iron sheets, roofing materials, cement, and paying for labor.
A total of UGX 6,926,000 was raised during the Sunday fundraising.
In his speech, Hon. Maxwell Akora described himself as “a new broom that will sweep better than the old broom, but at the same time an old broom that knows all the corners of the house.” He urged the people of Apac Municipality not to be divided over political ambitions and called for peace and unity ahead of the 2026 general elections.
He also highlighted contributions made during his previous terms in 2011 and 2016, including support for schools like Atar P/S, Atopi P/S, and Odokomac P/S, rehabilitating several boreholes, and supporting youth and churches, among other initiatives.
