The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has called upon the recently appointed Assistant Resident District/City Commissioners to prioritize mobilizing the population towards engaging in commercial agriculture as a means to eradicate household poverty.

These Assistant RDCs/RCCs are currently undergoing a two-week retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi district to familiarize themselves with their roles before they begin monitoring government programs in their designated districts.

Todwong emphasized the importance of ensuring that the communities they serve actively participate in productive activities, such as wealth creation programs like the Parish Development Model and emyooga, to sustain their livelihoods.

According to SG Todwong, addressing poverty at the individual household level is essential for maintaining peace and stability within the country. He highlighted that poverty often leads to domestic conflicts and an increase in social issues like domestic violence and the presence of street children in urban areas.

Furthermore, Todwong urged the commissioners to align their leadership with the strategic guidance provided by President Museveni, particularly focusing on sectors such as ICT, industrialization, commercial agriculture, and services industry. This, he believes, will pave the way for creating employment opportunities for educated youth and fostering wealth creation and prosperity for all citizens.

During his lecture, Mr. Todwong cautioned the Assistant commissioners against engaging in conflicts with other district leaders, as it could hinder service delivery. Instead, he encouraged them to seek advice and collaborate with other officials in the district to ensure effective governance.

Additionally, Todwong stressed the importance of combating corruption within the public service, emphasizing that corrupt practices drain significant resources that could otherwise benefit taxpayers. He urged the leaders to play an active role in curbing corruption and safeguarding public funds for the betterment of society.
