Ugandan Opposition Leader Bobi Wine Detained by Soldiers

Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine was arrested by soldiers at Entebbe Airport on Wednesday, October 5, 2023. The circumstances surrounding his arrest are unclear, but the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, which Bobi Wine leads, has confirmed his detention.

Eyewitnesses at the airport reported a heavy military presence as Bobi Wine arrived from an international trip. Soldiers surrounded him and swiftly apprehended him, before driving him away in an undisclosed location.
