KABALE, Uganda – Chairpersons of Local Council Ones (LC1s) from Kabale Municipality have raised alarm over the absence of security lights in their areas, citing it as a major cause of increasing crime.
The issue was raised during the budget conference for the 2026/27 financial year held at the Kabale Municipal Council Hall.
Presenting their concerns, the Chairpersons noted that thieves take advantage of the darkness to rob residents and steal property.
Led by Charles Bisati, the LC1 Chairperson of Kanyakiriro Cell, the leaders also highlighted the problem of poor drainage systems, especially in swampy areas like Kirwa Cell, which has worsened during the ongoing rainy season.
In addition, they called for the renovation of all roads within Kabale Municipality.
In response, Mayor Byamugisha Sentaro acknowledged the security challenges and assured the leaders that steps are being taken to address them.
He urged Local Council Chairpersons to conduct night patrols and promptly report any suspicious activities in their communities.
