Kamwenge District, Uganda – A storm is brewing in Kamwenge District after multiple district councilors alleged they were unknowingly influenced to endorse the incumbent LCV Chairman under the influence of alcohol during a recent council meeting.
According to emerging reports, several council members were reportedly served alcohol during the session, leading to what many now describe as a manipulated endorsement process. The councilors claim they were misled into backing the LCV Chairperson, believing there would be material or financial benefits tied to their support.
However, once the session ended and no rewards materialized, discontent quickly followed. Some councilors have since withdrawn their endorsements, citing coercion, lack of clarity, and political manipulation. Many say they were not fully aware of the implications of their actions at the time and have faced severe criticism from their constituents, who accuse them of betraying public trust.
“This wasn’t a democratic endorsement. It was a trap,” one councilor told reporters on condition of anonymity. “Now our voters are angry, and we’re the ones left to explain something we didn’t even fully agree to.”
The controversy has sparked a broader discussion about governance and ethical conduct in Kamwenge District. Political analysts warn that this incident may have serious repercussions ahead of the 2026 general elections, potentially shifting public confidence and political alignments in the area.
Local civil society groups have also called for investigations into the alleged misconduct, urging for greater accountability and transparency in district decision-making processes.
As the dust settles, many in Kamwenge are left questioning the integrity of their leaders and demanding answers about how political influence is being exercised behind closed doors.
