Kanungu District officials have refused to commission a multipurpose hall at Kihihi primary school in Kihihi Sub County, citing incomplete works.

The contract for the works was awarded to Ms. Enotu Construction Limited for 191.14 million Shillings.  On Wednesday, the company had prepared for a handover.

However, Gad Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe, Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner said that when they reached the site to receive the facility, they were shocked to see incomplete works.   Ahimbisibwe says that the water drainage was incomplete as well as a failure by the contractor to plant trees in the compound in compliance with environmental standards.

Rugaaju says that the contractor was given an ultimatum of two weeks to complete the work.

Kenneth Tumuhamye, Secretary of Social Services, expressed disappointment with the contractor for failing to fulfill what was agreed upon.

Mutahakana Gertrude, Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer says that the contracting company will not be paid until works are complete.

An official who represented the contracting company and preferred anonymity says the company will complete the works in the given time.
