Steven Ariong, Karamoja – Karamoja residents were saddened this week by the handover of the 3rd Division command from Maj. Gen. Don Nabasa to Brig. Gen. Wilberforce Sserunkuma.
Maj. Gen. Nabasa, who took over from Brig. Gen. Joseph Balikudembe, earned widespread praise from the local population for his exemplary work in restoring peace to the region.
After assuming command, Maj. Gen. Nabasa embarked on community sensitization campaigns, encouraging the Karimojong to peacefully surrender their illegal firearms.
The jovial and resolute General achieved significant successes, building upon the foundations laid by previous commanders such as Gen. Felix Busizoori.
Maj. Gen. Nabasa effectively managed the Karamoja situation without any significant challenges. In fact, his presence fostered a positive image of President Museveni and the NRM party among the population.
Maj. Gen. Nabasa has now been appointed to head Joint Staff Policy and Strategy at UPDF headquarters.
However, there is hope for continued peace and stability under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Wilberforce Sserunkuma, the new 3rd Division commander. Brig. Gen. Sserunkuma possesses a deep understanding of the Karamoja region, having served as a key commander in the fight against insecurity.
He is known for his dedication and approachable demeanor while maintaining a firm stance against criminality.
Karamoja can thus expect another capable leader committed to maintaining peace and security in the region.
