Moroto, Uganda – Concerned residents in Karamoja districts have appealed for investigations into the projects implemented under the Development Initiative for Northern Uganda (DINU) with funding from the European Union in Karamoja.

They claim that all the projects under DINU have failed to make any significant impact on the lives of the people of Karamoja. According to the residents, all the projects under DINU in Karamoja are poorly executed.

Joseph Lomogin said they have toured community roads under DINU, but it was shocking to see that all the roads looked as if no work was done.

“Go to Abim, come to Amudat on the Naporokoca road, my God, nothing is good at all,” he said.

Simon Owilli from Abim district said DINU projects are the worst-implemented projects in Karamoja.

“All the projects funded by the European Union, this is the worst one in terms of reality and accountability,” he said.

Losia Chelangat from Amudat pointed out the police post at Alakas border in Amudat district where she said 700m was spent, but all the houses are on the verge of collapsing before even two years have passed.

“This money that the European Union sends to Uganda is not a donation; it’s a loan for the people of Uganda, and Karamoja is included. Now, when the structures are poorly done, it’s Ugandans paying back the loan,” she said.
