President William Ruto of Kenya arrived in Uganda to attend the IGAD summit hosted by President Yoweri Museveni. The summit aims to address escalating tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia, with potential repercussions for the region. The meeting is set to take place at State House Entebbe.

Upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport on Thursday afternoon, Ruto received a warm welcome from the Foreign Affairs State Minister, Henry Okello Oryem. The IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) summit brings together member nations, including Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda.

President Museveni’s initiative to host the summit highlights the collective effort to address the critical issues affecting the East African region. The focus of the meeting is on mitigating tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia to prevent adverse consequences.

This development follows recent events, including Kenya and the European Union signing a significant trade deal to boost investment and trade. Additionally, Kenya has disassociated itself from the Democratic Republic of Congo rebel alliance.

In other news, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) granted Kenya a new $941 million loan, signifying ongoing financial collaborations between Kenya and international institutions.
