Over UGX 7.8 million was raised during a fundraising event held to support the renovation of a classroom block at Ngezi Primary School, as part of broader efforts to enhance academic excellence.

The event took place on Saturday at Ngezi Church of Uganda in Nyakinama Sub-county, Kisoro District. It was presided over by local businessman Brian Turikumwe, popularly known as “Big Fish,” who is also an aspiring LC5 Councilor for Nyakinama Sub-county. Turikumwe personally contributed UGX 1.3 million towards the cause.

In his speech, Turikumwe expressed concern over the poor state of the school’s infrastructure and urged parents to collaborate in efforts to uplift the school’s standards. He also criticized the current district councilors, accusing them of incompetence, and claimed their poor leadership has left residents dissatisfied.

Amos Ngayabaseka, the Chairperson of the School Management Committee, and Emmanuel Zirimo, Chairperson of the Parents Teachers’ Association (PTA), called on the Kisoro District Education Department to take a more active role in supervising and monitoring the government-aided school.

The Head Teacher of Ngezi Primary School, Mr. Alfred Nkurunziza, expressed his gratitude to all the well-wishers and pledged to work harder to ensure continued improvement in the school’s performance and infrastructure.
