KISORO, UGANDA – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Returning Officer for Kisoro District, Tadeo Mujambere, has issued a stern warning to the district’s Vice Chairperson, Nambajimana Alex, cautioning him against misleading the public by falsely claiming to be the elected NRM flag bearer for the Kisoro Municipality mayoralty seat.
The warning was delivered during a press briefing held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Mujambere’s office on Kivengeri Road in Kisoro Municipality.
Mujambere clarified that the Kisoro Municipality mayoral race is still under review due to allegations of voting irregularities, including discrepancies in the number of registered voters. Political contestant Ndukiyezre has officially petitioned the NRM national tribunal to investigate the matter.
Mujambere explained that, in accordance with the NRM party constitution, he was only authorized to announce preliminary results.
He strongly emphasized that Nambajimana is not yet the official winner of the mayoral race, stating, “I am hearing that Alex Nambajimana is saying that he is the official NRM flag bearer for the Kisoro Municipality Mayor, but that is not so. The party is just safeguarding the flag for us. After winning the case against him over irregularities, he will be the official party flag bearer.”
Special Interest Group Elections Conducted Peacefully
Meanwhile, the NRM yesterday successfully conducted special interest group elections at the district level, including for the elderly, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs). In Kisoro District, these elections were held peacefully at the Mayors Garden in Kisoro Municipality.
In the elderly category, Ntakyoturyira Philip and Nkuranga Florah were unopposed candidates. Similarly, Uwimana Judith and Kiza Samuel were unopposed in the youth category. For the vulnerable category (PWDs), Niyigaba Baker emerged as the male representative.
In a more competitive race for female PWD representation, Baganda Eunice secured victory with 59 votes, defeating Nyiransenga Jackline, who garnered 41 votes.
Kisoro NRM Returning Officer Tadeo Mujambere acknowledged the voting exercise as peaceful, noting the unity displayed among supporters, candidates, and voters.
