Kisoro, Uganda – Members of the Kisoro Kikubu United Traders Association have expressed deep concern over the deteriorating conditions of the market, which are hindering their business operations.
During the association’s annual general meeting held in Kikubo, traders highlighted several pressing issues, including muddy floors, limited access to clean water, and property damage caused by frequent flooding, especially during the rainy season.
They also pointed to the challenges posed by fluctuating commodity prices and poor road conditions, which increase transportation costs and delays.
To address these problems, the traders urged the municipal leadership and the government to intervene by:
- Renovating and improving market infrastructure
- Installing proper drainage systems
- Regularly cleaning and maintaining the market
- Using durable flooring materials like concrete or pavers
Sunday Godfrey, the Chairperson of the Kisoro Kikubu United Traders Association, acknowledged the efforts of the municipal leadership but emphasized the urgent need for market renovations.
He expressed frustration over the frequent flooding caused by neglect, which leads to the spoilage and damage of goods. Godfrey also called for a fair exchange between tax payments and service delivery.
During the annual general meeting, the existing committee members were re-elected for another term in recognition of their contributions to the association’s operations.
