The Kisoro district youth leadership has raised concerns over the rampant corruption within the Kisoro district service commission and other government departments.
During the Kisoro district youth council meeting held in the Kisoro municipal council, the Kisoro youth chairperson, John Bosco Tuyizere, accused the service commission of demanding exorbitant bribes from job applicants, ranging from 5 to 10 million shillings. This practice, he claimed, has significantly contributed to the high unemployment rate among the youth in Kisoro.
Tuyizere urged all youth who have fallen victim to bribery and corruption to come forward and report the incidents to him. He pledged to assist them in recovering the extorted funds, which could then be used for development purposes.
The finance secretary of the Kisoro Youth Council, Morris Hakizimana, encouraged the youth to be innovative and creative and to actively participate in government programs such as the Youth Livelihood Programs and the Parish Development Model. He emphasized that these programs can help to reduce unemployment rates.
Hakizimana also acknowledged the legacy of the late Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, who was a champion for education, health, infrastructure development, and gender equality in Kisoro district.
Joseph Ndimaso, the youth chairperson of Nyarubuye Subcounty, called upon the government to conduct seminars and public trainings on farming, businesses, and other investment procedures. He believed that this would enable the youth to effectively utilize the youth livelihood funds.
The meeting concluded with a moment of silence in honor of the late minister Sarah Mateke
