The incumbent Member of Parliament for Bukimbiri Constituency, Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, has strongly condemned what he described as abusive and divisive politics allegedly being practiced by his opponents ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Kwizera made the remarks during the launch of his manifesto on Wednesday at Rubuguri Town Council Playground, where he received a warm welcome from residents.

The event followed his official nomination to run as an independent candidate, using a clock as his election symbol, as he seeks to reclaim his seat against NRM flag bearer Turyagyenda Asgario.

Addressing a large gathering of supporters, Kwizera accused his opponents of conducting a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his reputation. He urged his supporters to rise above such politics and avoid language driven by jealousy, hatred, or sectarianism.

Kwizera appealed to the electorate to choose leaders based on their vision and mission rather than personal or partisan interests.

Meanwhile, Bukimbiri County NRM flag bearer Turyagyenda Asgario has pledged to prioritize household development as part of his commitment to improving the livelihoods of residents.

After his official nomination at Kisoro District Council Hall, Turyagyenda proceeded to Rubuguri Town Council, where he officially launched the NRM manifesto.

Turyagyenda emphasized that the ruling party’s manifesto addresses the core challenges facing the people of Bukimbiri, highlighting poor road infrastructure as one of the major obstacles to economic growth. He cited the Kasharara–Kalehe and Rubuguri–Rutaka–Nyarutembe roads among those in deplorable condition, pledging to advocate for their rehabilitation.
