The Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court has remanded Dr. Eron Lawrence, a Senior Lecturer at Kyambogo University on charges of aggravated defilement. It alleged that he defiled and infected a visually impaired teenager with HIV.
On Friday, Dr Lawrence appeared before Chief Magistrate Christine Nantege who didn’t allow him to plead to the charges against them because they are capital in nature and can only be tried by the High Court.
The prosecution alleges that on October 12th, 2023, between Kyambogo University and Namugongo Nsawo village in the Wakiso District, Dr Eron performed a sexual act with a girl aged 16 years with a disability when he was HIV positive and also a person in authority over her.
Police previously put a 10 million bounty on whoever could arrest Dr Lawrence after he was summoned to appear before them in vain. However, on Thursday night he presented himself to CID.
In the meantime, Dr. Eron Lawrence has been remanded to Luzira prison until July 17th, 2024 as investigations continue.

The Directorate of CID in coordination with the KMP territorial police had been hunting for Dr. Eron Lawrence since last year. Dr. Eron was the Project Administrator for “All we see is a possibility” at Kyambogo University. The victim was one of the beneficiaries of the project.
The Police said, Eron absconded the police bond on 14.12.2023 and disappeared after his case file was sanctioned on 13.12.2023 for the Aggravated Defilement of a girl victim, aged 16 years, with a disability.
It is alleged that the suspect traveled as a caretaker with 4 students including the 16-year-old, with visual impairment victim to Nairobi-Kenya, for a conference, and returned on 12.10.2023. He reportedly drove together with the victim from around 10.20 pm, up to Namugongo Nsawo village, Kira municipality. The Police said that along the way, the victim requested for water, which was bought at a supermarket along Ndagire Road, in Nalya.
The victim reportedly fell unconscious after taking the water. Upon gaining consciousness, she felt some pain around her genitals and realized she had been sexually assaulted. It is suspected that sexual assault took place in the car.
The following morning her maternal uncle, drove her back to her school in Mukono and she revealed her ordeal to the Senior Woman teacher, who alerted the school head teacher, and the matter was reported to Mukono police.
According to the Police, the victim was put on post-rape treatment, and the DNA samples recovered from the suspect’s car, a Toyota Wish, registration number UBA 349Z, matched with the samples found on the body of the victim.
