Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul of the Lango Cultural Foundation has set conditions to be met in case genuine reconciliation with the Lango Cultural Institution is to take place. In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister of the Lango Cultural Foundation, James Robert Ajal, held at Palm Garden in Lira City on Monday afternoon, Dickson Ogwang Okul set a few conditions for smooth reconciliation between the Lango Cultural Institution (LCI) and Lango Cultural Foundation (LCF).
The meeting aimed to brief members of the Lango Cultural Foundation, especially the “Owitong” (clan heads), on the outcome of the meeting held between the Lango cultural delegation of over 200 members and H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, at State House Entebbe on Friday, June 28, 2024.
“So we came back with a lot of happiness from Entebbe,” said Okul.
Apart from the endorsement and blessing by Won Nyaci Yosam Odur, he congratulated the Owitong for contributing a total of 2.5 million shillings to help in the legal redress of the cultural matter that will soon be battled in court.
Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul outlined two conditions for reconciliation by any reconciling body:
- Nullification of the earlier election of March 1, 2024.
- Requirement for the election of a clan leader rather than an ordinary member of the clan.
“The qualification is that you should be an eligible clan head, not an ordinary member of a clan,” emphasized Okul during the meeting, among other conditions.
Okul added, “But the President has also talked about the issue of occupying Lango Cultural Foundation offices. For us, the loyal subjects of Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii, we are organizing an election.”
In a resolution read by Prime Minister James Robert Ajal of the Lango Cultural Foundation, the following individuals were confirmed as the new electoral commission to conduct elections before October 2024, in which every district in the Lango sub-region will participate:
- Rtd Col. Opito Dan, Chairperson
- Patrick Okwii Jaramogi, Vice Chairman
- Molly Akello, Member
- Tonny Ongat
- Charles Ojok
According to Ogwal Oyee, the clan chief of Inomo, he stated that he will continue to support Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii because even the roadmap sent out by Yosam was drafted by him and others under the instruction of Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii.
Sixty-three (63) people attended the meeting, with a clear message from Ambassador Ogwang Okul that he is a commander blessed by Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii.
