Oyam District, Uganda – A mix of happiness and tears marked Day 3 of Minister Betty Amongi’s farewell tour in Oyam District. The Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi Akena, conducted an inspection of government infrastructure projects funded by the Parliament of Uganda in Oyam District on Monday, January 6, 2025. She was accompanied by fellow Members of Parliament and district leaders from Oyam.
Among the sites visited was Alira Health Center II, which has now been upgraded to a Health Center III. The inspection was welcomed by the local community as a significant step toward improving service delivery.
Amongi was joined by Hon. Santa Alum Ogwang, the Women MP for Oyam District, Hon. Dr. Apio Otuku, MP for Oyam North Constituency, Hon. Dila Benson Oyuku, Oyam District Local Government Chairperson, the Chief Administrative Officer, the RDC, Assistant RDC, and members of the Works & Technical Committee, among others.
Minister Amongi, who represents Oyam South in the 11th Parliament, is on a farewell tour in Oyam South County, thanking the electorate for their support during her tenure.
The tour also celebrates the achievements made during her time in office, which she attributes to the collective efforts of both her leadership and the community.
In addition, Minister Amongi confirmed her decision to run for the Lira City Woman MP seat in the 2026 general elections, after shifting her focus from Oyam South.
She will contest under the UPC party ticket, and the people of Lira City are eagerly anticipating the political battle she will face against other Woman MP candidates in the upcoming elections.
