Lira, July 25, 2024 – Lira City Commercial Officer, Okello Odyek, has been arrested and detained at Ojwina Police Station on allegations of embezzling Parish Development Model (PDM) funds through extortion from SACCO members.
The arrest follows an investigation by the Lira City RCC office, led by Lawrence Egole, which uncovered evidence of financial impropriety. Odyek was apprehended alongside [names of others involved].
The community alleges that several individuals, including Alolate [role unclear], Prisca Angwech (Chairperson of [organization unclear]), Bua Anthony, Tony Oula, and Patrick Wasxa of Anya-gapuc ward, received funds at the instruction of Okello Odyek.
The RCC office has received commendation for its efforts in combating corruption. RCC Egole stated, “Finally, commercial officer Okello Odyek and Angwech Prisca (SWICO Insurance) and Chairperson of Akwia Woro PDM are in police custody at Ojwina.”
There are calls for the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to take over the case and transfer the suspects to Kampala for prosecution.
