LIRA, Uganda — The territorial police in Lira City West Division are investigating the murder of Aliro George (RIP), which occurred on November 8, 2024, at around 03:20 hours in Owiti Cell, Amuca Ward, Lira City, in the North Kyoga Region.
Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Jimmy Patrick Okema stated that the report was registered with the police at Ojwina Police Station by Opeta Solomon, a 22-year-old medical officer and resident of Owiti Cell.
According to the report, Aliro George, aged 32, a butcher and resident of Kakoge “A” Cell, Ojwina “C” Ward, had been having an extramarital affair with Akullo Daisy, the wife of the suspect, Otim Bazil, aged 29. On the night of November 8, 2024, at around 00:20 hours, Aliro called Akullo, promising to visit her at her marital home. When he arrived, the door was opened for him.
While inside, Otim, the husband of Akullo, allegedly grabbed Aliro and attacked him, fatally injuring him with a sharp weapon. Aliro died at the scene due to multiple cuts and severe bleeding.
A team of police officers from Lira City West Division, led by the Division CID officer, visited the scene. They were accompanied by SOCO (Scene of Crime Officers) and a homicide team. According to North Kyoga Region PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the scene was examined, documented, and a sketch map was drawn. The body of the deceased was later transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. A panga, which is suspected to have been used in the attack, was recovered and is now being held as evidence.
Okema added that relevant witnesses have been interviewed, and statements have been recorded. The prime suspect, Otim Bazil, remains at large, but Akullo Daisy and another man, who claims to be her brother, are in custody to assist with the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that Akullo may be pregnant with Aliro’s child.
“We strongly condemn the act of killings, which has become rampant in the region,” Okema said. “We also advise Otim Bazil to turn himself in to the nearest police station to support the investigation and face possible charges in court.”
