The Lira City Emyooga Taxi Operators SACCO has achieved significant success, accumulating over UGX 26 million in savings, ahead of President Museveni’s upcoming tour of the Lango sub-region.

In 2021, the Lira Municipality Emyooga SACCO received an initial disbursement of UGX 30 million through the Microfinance Support Centre Limited. Through diligent financial management, they have now amassed savings exceeding UGX 26 million in their active account. The SACCO is anticipating further growth and success in the coming months.

Recognizing their achievements, the SACCO received an additional UGX 29 million due to their impressive financial performance in Lira City and the Lango sub-region.

Bernard Masanga, the General Secretary of the Lira City Taxi Operators SACCO, has called upon H.E President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta to support the promotion and marketing of Kira Motor products, locally manufactured vehicles produced using Ugandan technology.

“As taxi operators,” Masanga stated, “we are eager to promote Kira Motor products, especially their current bus models. We believe that if two buses could be donated to our SACCO, it would significantly boost our success and progress in Lira City.”

Masanga also requested an opportunity for the SACCO members to meet with H.E the President to personally share their success story, demonstrating the effectiveness of Emyooga government projects in wealth creation within Lira City, the Lango sub-region, and Uganda as a whole.

However, Masanga highlighted a significant challenge facing the SACCO: the large membership of 215 members, encompassing both Lira City West Division and Lira City East Division. The SACCO was initially established when Lira was still a municipality, prior to its current status as a city.

One SACCO member, who requested anonymity, expressed enthusiasm for the President’s visit, hoping to showcase the SACCO’s success story to him directly.

A driver in his mid-40s urged the public to embrace the President’s wealth creation initiatives, emphasizing that they can now access loans from their own Municipality Taxi Operators SACCO.
