Mbale City Faces Threat as Armed Kadodi Groups Launch Invasion

The Ankole Times

Members of the public in Mbale City are experiencing sleepless nights due to the infiltration of fake kadodi dancers. These individuals, often disguised as authentic kadodi dancers, have been causing havoc by robbing unsuspecting members of the public.

Muhammad Mugoya, the Mbale City Inspector of Schools, reveals that many of these impostors originate from the areas of Busamaga and Namatala. They organize fake kadodi processions in the evenings, taking advantage of the absence of imbalu candidates. The crimes committed include robbery, defilement, and the rape of women. After their illicit activities, the fake dancers retreat safely to the slums.

Mr. Wasike, the former Headmaster for Namatala, shares a distressing incident where pseudo kadodi dancers brutally attacked a husband who tried to protect his pregnant wife. The fake dancers turned violent and fatally hacked the husband to death.

Mr. Steven Masiga, the spokesperson for the cultural leadership of Bugisu, highlights various offenses listed under the penal code, such as defilement, rape, and robbery, which carry heavy punishments if committed by circumcision celebrants. He emphasizes that imbalu celebrations do not grant anyone the freedom to engage in criminal activities. Mr. Masiga calls for vigilance among citizens, urging them to report such incidents to the police or Bugisu leadership.

Encouraging genuine celebrants of imbalu, Mr. Steven Masiga advises them to follow the widely circulated timetable for circumcision. According to the timetable, circumcision begins in August. He points out that many of the criminals causing trouble during imbalu celebrations are not even Bamasaaba but rather hardened criminals exploiting the event to escalate their unlawful behavior. Identifying genuine celebrants through the traditional regalia is suggested as a preventive measure.

The chairman of the imbalu committee, Mr. Wilson, states that they have substantial information about this reckless group and are collaborating with various enforcement agencies to restore order. In the interim, the police have been granted authorization to use lawful means, including arrests, to restrain such vices in the city.

Umukuka III, His Royal Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, has recently tasked the police to bring to order these barbaric acts. The Bamasaaba people, residing in the sunset gradients of Mount Elgon, are a circumcising tribe in Uganda that conducts circumcision ceremonies every leap year. Mr. Steven Masiga shares the legend that other tribes like Baganda, Banyankole, Banyole, Basoga, Bagwere, and Basamia were once Bamasaaba but fled to distant places to avoid circumcision.
