Police in Katwe–Makindye Division have arrested a 57-year-old woman, Nakanwagi Gladys Rebecca, in connection with an alleged assault in Kavule Zone, Kampala.
According to police, the incident occurred on January 9, 2026, at around 7:00 a.m. It is alleged that Nakanwagi confronted Namutebi Mariam, a 65-year-old woman, grabbed her by the T-shirt, assaulted her, and damaged her clothing.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Kawala Rachael confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect is currently being held at Katwe Police Station as investigations continue.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect assaulted the victim and tore her clothes,” Kawala said. “She is now in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.”
Kawala added that the case file will be sent to the Office of the Resident State Attorney once inquiries are concluded.
“The matter will be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice,” she said.
Police reiterated their warning against violence, particularly during the election period.
“We strongly condemn all forms of electoral violence and lawlessness,” Kawala said, calling on the public to remain peaceful and respect the law.
