Uganda’s Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, has asked National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, to stop hiding and return home, saying the state is not pursuing him.
Speaking on NBS TV, Baryomunsi dismissed claims that security agencies are looking for the former presidential candidate, insisting there is no threat to his safety.
“There’s no need for drama or theatrics. Elections are done,” Baryomunsi said.
His remarks come amid reports that Bobi Wine has been in hiding since the January 15 elections. The NUP leader has previously claimed that his life and that of his family are in danger, accusing security forces of surrounding his home and issuing threats against him.
Through social media posts and recorded messages, Bobi Wine has maintained that he fears arrest or harm, pointing to past confrontations with security agencies during and after the election period.
However, government officials have repeatedly denied these claims, saying Kyagulanyi is free to move and that there are no plans to arrest him.
Baryomunsi’s comments reflect the government’s position that the election process has ended and that political leaders should move on.
“The elections are over, and the country should return to normal,” he added.
As of now, Bobi Wine remains in hiding although he a day ago posted a video of himself visiting his ancestral home in Gomba.
