In a surprising turn of events, Ugandan comedian Okanya Sam, popularly known as Sammy of Da Mighty Family, has reached out to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for medical assistance, publicly apologizing for past political insults and aligning himself with the ruling government after years of supporting the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
Sammy, once vocal in his support for Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), shared an open letter on his social media platforms addressed directly to President Museveni. In it, he blamed his past remarks on the influence of marijuana and acknowledged that believing Bobi Wine could unseat Museveni was, in his words, a “weed-induced” dream.
Sources close to the comedian reveal that Sammy has been battling serious medical complications, particularly urinary dysfunction, which has affected his daily life and career. With the financial pressures mounting and treatment seemingly out of reach, he appears to have swallowed his political pride and extended an olive branch to the same leadership he once criticized.
Observers see this as part of a growing trend of once-vocal NUP supporters softening their stance, particularly in light of personal hardships and the dominance of the NRM in key state structures.
Below is Sammy’s full letter to President Museveni:
