Opposition leaders in Kisoro district have welcomed the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s decision to quit X, formerly known as Twitter, where he had been posting controversial messages.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced his decision to leave X last week. Among his final tweets, he threatened to behead the country’s leading opposition figure, Robert Kyagulanyi, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), sparking mixed reactions locally, nationally, and internationally.

Laban R, Chairperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Kisoro, revealed that General Muhoozi Kainerugaba was using X for propaganda and misleading the public, which could negatively impact Uganda’s international relations with other countries.

He stated that General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s departure from X is a “blessing in disguise” for the opposition leadership.

Owen Ahimbisibwe, the former General Secretary of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kisoro district, revealed that General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s tweets often seemed to conflate his personal opinions with his official duties, which can create confusion and undermine trust in the military institution. He described this as an act of exposing his weaknesses to the general public.

Meanwhile, Gordon Semahore, the former spokesperson of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kisoro district, expressed disappointment with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s recent tweets, highlighting the need for social media regulation in Uganda.

Semahore stated that it is high time for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to respect the ethical guidelines and integrity of the military.
