Kyebando witnessed an unexpected and bizarre twist yesterday, October 14, when an unfamiliar face emerged at the center of a protest. The man, later identified as Kosaam Ssemwogerere, shocked the public and police alike by declaring his intentions to run for the presidency in 2026, midway through an illegal protest!

Kosaama, a teacher by profession, led a group of young supporters through the streets, holding up posters featuring his photo and name. He boldly called for none other than President Museveni to step down immediately. “I’m going to stand for the presidency in 2026, but I want Museveni to retire now!” Kosaam shouted, startling onlookers. He also claimed that Museveni has been “stealing votes” for years and that he didn’t want the same fate to befall his own campaign.

Not surprisingly, the protest attracted swift attention from law enforcement. Police swooped in and arrested the audacious would-be candidate, leaving locals in both shock and stitches.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Afande Onyango, confirmed the arrest and shared that Kosaam confessed during interrogation that his protest wasn’t just about the president’s retirement, but also about gaining recognition as a presidential hopeful. After all, who would vote for someone no one has ever heard of?

Despite the funny campaign strategy, Kosaama’s antics earned him unexpected support from some locals. “That man is brave! Teachers should lead this country. They are the ones who shape our presidents, so why shouldn’t they run for the highest office?” one bystander commented.

Others, while admiring his courage, urged Kosaama to follow the right channels. “He’s got a point, but maybe a legal route would be wiser. We don’t want him to end up in jail before he even launches his campaign!” another resident joked.

Whether this teacher-turned-political-dreamer has a real shot at shaking up Uganda’s political landscape remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Kyebando won’t soon forget the day a schoolteacher, with little more than a protest and a dream, attempted to set the stage for a presidential run!
