Geoffrey Omoding, Serere – The general public in Kateta Sub County, Serere County, has been left dismayed after the State Minister for Energy, Mr. Sindorious Opolot Okasai, was dragged to commission a generator instead of connecting the area to the national grid. This development follows the mounting pressure that the incumbent MPs of Serere District are facing due to poor service delivery.
The situation has left the entire county wondering how the State Minister Okasai could accept deceiving the people of Kateta by claiming he had switched on the electricity line distributing power to Kateta Sub County when, in reality, it was a generator located within the sub-county headquarters.
“This pressure is mounted on the current sitting MPs by new aspiring candidates, but this is wrong. President Museveni should discipline the two ministers who came and deceived us here in Kateta,” said John Opolot. According to Opolot, there is no way power can be switched on in Kateta while a case lodged by residents whose crops were destroyed during the line’s construction is still before the High Court.
“We shall wait until 2026. Why are they fooling us and deceiving us with political games? There’s no way,” he said.
Grace Aguti, another resident, stated that the time for playing with the minds of the people of Serere has come to an end. This publication learned that initially, when the power was switched on, all centers connected to the grid would start receiving electricity. However, since the supposed commissioning yesterday, no house in the entire sub-county, including the sub-county headquarters where the launch took place, has had any power.
Locals are now demanding accountability for the fuel used by the Minister of Energy to travel to Kateta to deceive the residents.
