Gulu, Uganda – Kakanyero Hotel in Gulu, where legislators stayed ahead of today’s regional parliamentary sitting at Kaunda Grounds, was stormed this morning by a group of anti-corruption protesters. The demonstrators, carrying placards and chanting slogans, demanded the immediate resignation of Speaker Anita Among and an end to corruption.

The protesters condemned the ongoing regional sittings, describing them as a waste of taxpayers’ money. They urged Parliament to reconsider holding such sittings, arguing that the resources spent could be better utilized to address pressing issues affecting ordinary citizens.

The regional parliamentary sitting in Gulu, set to take place at Kaunda Grounds, is part of a series of sessions intended to bring Parliament closer to different regions of the country. However, this initiative has faced criticism from various groups, who view it as an unnecessary expenditure amid Uganda’s economic challenges.

Authorities are yet to comment on the protest, and it remains to be seen how today’s sitting will proceed in light of the demonstration.
