Ssabakabona Jjumba Lubowa Aligaweesa has revealed that his wife, traditional healer Ssenga Kulanama, has been given only three months to live unless she undergoes an urgent liver transplant.
Speaking publicly, Jjumba said doctors informed them that Kulanama’s condition has deteriorated, leaving her surviving “only by the grace of God.” He explained that while the couple was in Germany last year seeking specialised treatment, medical experts advised that a liver transplant was the only option to extend her life.
According to Jjumba, the cost of the transplant and related medical care is estimated at about Shs800 million, an amount they have failed to raise. He said they attempted to seek help from President Yoweri Museveni but were blocked by what he described as “mafias in government,” frustrating their efforts to access assistance.
The dire situation, Jjumba added, has pushed Ssenga Kulanama to openly support National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, whom she hopes can win the presidency and address her plight.
Ssenga Kulanama has also claimed that her illness is the result of poisoning by fellow traditional healers. She alleges that after declaring herself the leader of all traditional healers in Uganda and gaining recognition within government circles, some of her peers became hostile and plotted to end her life.
Since falling ill, Kulanama has reportedly sought treatment in several medical facilities both locally and abroad. However, doctors have now warned that without a liver transplant, she may not survive beyond April this year.
