Over five National Resistance Movement (NRM) sub-county registrars in Isingiro District are under investigation following allegations of misappropriating more than Shs 90 million intended for youth mobilisation during the party’s recent primary elections.

The developments follow a closed-door security meeting held last Friday, during which district officials acknowledged receiving more than 10 complaints from youth across various sub-counties. The registrars are accused of diverting funds that were meant to support grassroots mobilisation efforts.

Isingiro Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Ada Nasiima, confirmed that the funds had been allocated by the party to support youth mobilisation but noted that several registrars failed to account for the money. She warned that any individuals who fail to produce accountability would be held legally responsible.

“We are extending the investigation to include other funds allocated to special interest groups and elders. Accountability must be enforced at all levels,” Nasiima said.

Moses Mushabe, the NRM District Chairperson, emphasized the importance of following party financial guidelines. He explained that registrars were entrusted with the funds and were expected to distribute them directly to youth within their jurisdictions.

Mushabe also appealed to the affected youth to remain calm, assuring them that the matter is being handled in accordance with party and national laws.

Meanwhile, Juma Gumaoshabe, the NRM youth flagbearer for Isingiro Town Council, confirmed that action has already been taken in some cases.
