Minister Aceng has warned community members in Lango sub-region to cease the practice of treating sore throats locally, known as “Gidwon”.

“My appeal is that we stop the practice of locally treating sore throats known as ‘Gidwon’,” she stated emphatically. Aceng noted that individuals with sore throats often seek treatment from local practitioners within the Lango community.

The Minister tasked the Speaker of Lango Cultural Institution, Mr. Willy Omodo Omodo, to relay her message to the newly elected Won Nyaci of Lango cultural institution, His Highness Eng Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune.

“Speaker of Lango cultural institution, please inform the Won Nyaci elect that Aceng has advised one of his responsibilities upon enthronement to be ending ‘Gidwon’ in Lango because it is not effective,” Minister Aceng emphasized.

Honorable Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero cautioned that sore throats should be treated at medical facilities, not locally.

“When people have a sore throat, they often mention having ‘Gidwon’. Stop this misunderstanding, people of Lango; we are endangering our own children and community members,” Dr. Jane warned.

Aceng addressed over 400 attendees at a two-day health assembly organized by Lira Regional Referral Hospital at Margarita Palace Hotel from July 4th to 5th, 2024.
