LIRA, Uganda  –  Lira City Woman MP and Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, launched the rehabilitation of 7.1 km of roads in Lira City East Division on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. This project aims to improve transportation within the area.

The launch, held at Ireda Lumumba, showcased Dr. Aceng’s commitment to her constituents. A large crowd, including local women (“Wanahinci”), gathered to witness the development.

Hon. Zena Opolot, Dr. Aceng’s political assistant, explained the project details to the press. The comprehensive rehabilitation will cover the road connecting Ireda to VH Public School and St. Gracious Primary School, among others. This initiative aims to improve the city’s infrastructure by facilitating easier transportation for boda bodas, business people, and schoolchildren.

Opolot further elaborated that the project will stretch from Ireda Lumumba to Lumumba Agali and on to Angwetangwet, covering a total of 7.1 km.

Ms. Margaret from Ireda Lumumba commended Hon. Dr. Aceng for her numerous contributions to the Lango sub-region, particularly Lira City.

“Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng is truly improving service delivery and advocating for government support,” Opolot emphasized. “She’s taking the initiative to fix major roads around Lira City that have been in poor condition for a long time.”

Opolot highlighted that Dr. Aceng goes beyond health, education, and business. She is dedicated to enhancing the community’s quality of life by ensuring access to better roads and other services, such as financially empowering women’s groups.

Encouraging the community to care for the repaired roads, Opolot stated, “MP Aceng is a leader sent by God to help the people. What she has accomplished in just three years in parliament surpasses what some long-serving leaders have achieved.”

Boda rider Bonny Opio expressed his gratitude to Dr. Aceng for focusing on road development. “There’s now hope that our boda boda business will improve,” he said. “MP Aceng has been actively supporting community development.”
