Lira, Uganda – The Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi Akena, has donated Shs 12 million to support St. Leo the Great Boroboro Catholic Sub-Parish in Lira City East Division, Lira City.

Minister Amongi announced the donation during the launch of a Christmas Carols album produced by the Church’s choir at the sub-parish grounds on Sunday afternoon. She presented Shs 2 million in cash to support the choir and pledged to contribute an additional Shs 10 million, which will be delivered at a later date. The pledged funds will be used to support church renovations and the procurement of a public address system.




Akello Christine, a 32-year-old resident of Boroboro, commended Minister Amongi for her generous donation. Odong Odul, a renowned councilor of Lira City, praised Amongi for her consistent support of church activities and her commitment to community service.




During the event, Minister Amongi also declared her intention to contest for the Lira City Woman MP seat in the upcoming 2026 elections.




Presidential advisor Opio Okello was among the dignitaries who attended the function, commending Minister Amongi for her generous contribution to the church.
