Minister Amongi Reaffirms Gov’t Support for Cultural Institutions as Pillars of Unity and Peace

Hon. Minister Betty Amongi Akena visited the Alur Cultural Institution on Thursday. She was received by the Nebbi Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Abak Robert.

While addressing cultural leaders in Nebbi District, Hon. Betty Amongi Akena, the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, stated:




“Our cultural institutions play a great role in promoting unity, heritage, peace, and socio-economic progress.”

Hon. Betty Amongi Akena is a known advocate for peace, unity, coexistence, culture, heritage, and socio-economic development.




As part of her ministry’s annual performance monitoring initiative, the Minister has recently commenced a series of engagements with cultural institutions. Among the key institutions under review are the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) and the Kumam Cultural Heritage (KCH), where the Minister is assessing activities and progress made during the 2024/2025 financial year.




These engagements serve as an accountability mechanism to track the effective use of government support and to strengthen institutional capacity.

Hon. Minister Betty Amongi Akena reaffirmed the government’s constitutional commitment to promoting and sustaining cultural institutions as vital pillars of identity, unity, and development within communities across Uganda.
