Honorable Balaam Ateenyi, the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, dedicated his Easter break to engaging with the residents of Butebo district in Uganda. His aim was to encourage them to support government development initiatives, combat corruption, discourage defilement practices, and eradicate forced early marriages. Butebo district, among the most affected in Uganda, was the focus of his efforts.

Minister Ateenyi extended his concerns beyond Butebo, expressing solidarity with Masindi District, Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, and the entire Albertine region. His heartfelt condolences were directed towards those affected by the sudden and accidental death of Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu, a celebrated flight pilot hero and the Deputy Commander of the Airforce. He wished for eternal peace for the departed soul and strength for the grieving community.

During Easter services at St. Peter’s Church in Butebo district, Minister Ateenyi actively engaged with children and mothers, sharing Easter gifts and fostering a sense of community. He emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in combating early forced child marriages in Uganda, a harmful practice that continues to persist despite efforts to reduce it over the past decade.

According to the new cabinet minister, his visit to Butebo underscored the government’s commitment to grassroots development and social change.

He asserted that by mobilizing residents and raising awareness about critical issues such as corruption, defilement, and early marriage, he sought to empower communities to take ownership of their futures and contribute to a more just and prosperous society.
