MTN Uganda has faced significant criticism and inquiries from the public on social media, with many accusing the company of unlawfully deducting funds from their mobile money accounts without their consent or initiation.

Mobile money has gained immense popularity as a method of saving and conducting transactions among Ugandans.

Nevertheless, there have been numerous complaints from various individuals regarding the mysterious disappearance of funds from their Mobile Money accounts. Recently, a surge of unauthorized transactions appears to have affected many MoMo users, prompting them to turn to social media to seek explanations from the telecommunications provider.

In response, MTN informed several users that these deductions occurred because the company noticed that the funds for certain transactions had not been collected in a timely manner. Therefore, the company maintained that the transactions were legitimate and posed no cause for concern for customers.

“Several subscribers of MTN are losing money in unclear circumstances. The operator keeps sending them messages of withdrawals they didn’t initiate.

@mtnug, please explain this!,” a popular journalist asked, to which MTN responded: “Yello @Sudhirntv! Sorry about that. Please note that the recoveries/adjustments are for customers who made certain transactions recently at no cost, yet we were supposed to charge them. All inconveniences caused are highly regretted.”

However, the affected customers were not satisfied with this explanation, as many pointed out that the costs are always deducted when they make transactions. Meanwhile, the telecommunications company remained adamant about its stance and even offered to provide transaction records to the dissatisfied clients.

Most of the deductions were below 2,000 shillings, yet it appeared that this issue affected numerous clients, raising questions about how the large company overlooked these uncollected fees in the first place.
