With just seven weeks remaining in 2024, Hon. Vincent Shedrick Obong Eyit, MP for Lira City West Division, has once again sounded the call for peace and unity among his constituents and the entire Lango sub-region. “It is high time we cast aside the spirit of division and disunity because united we stand, but divided we fall,” said MP Obong in a telephone interview on Saturday evening.
He highlighted that culturally, the court has pronounced its decision on the issue of the Lango paramount chief (Won Nyaci), which has now taken a new turn based on the court ruling. “There is nothing we can add or subtract from this judicial decree,” explained MP Obong Eyit.
On another note, Hon. Obong emphasized the importance of togetherness and moving as one people, advocating for a focus on development rather than hate speech or segregation.
He applauded the people of Lango for their support during the recent road rehabilitation efforts in Lira City West Division and promised to continue lobbying for his constituents in 2025 and beyond.
He urged the community to unite and work towards a common goal, aiming to enhance business opportunities, improve education, and foster peace in Lango, without any divisions based on cultural leadership.
MP Shedrick Obong Eyit’s call for unity and peaceful coexistence has garnered praise from various leaders and elders in the Lango sub-region.
Ogwal Mike, a councilor from Kakoge, commended MP Obong for his brilliant statement, noting that unity knows no borders and that forgiveness and peaceful coexistence are invaluable in any community. Quoting Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” MP Obong urged all of Lango to plan ahead as the new year approaches, emphasizing that development begins at home.
