During a meeting with the Central Executive Committee (CEC) members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) at State House Entebbe, President Yoweri K. Museveni discussed the outcomes of the party’s membership registration process, which occurred between March 13th and 17th.

The party secretariat provided a report on the registration process, highlighting certain gaps that were identified. These included concerns about the criminal activities of money lenders who confiscate national identity cards from Ugandan citizens and the limited participation of NRM village chairpersons in the registration process.

President Museveni emphasized the need to address these gaps, even considering legislative measures if necessary. The aim is to rectify these issues and ensure a fair and inclusive registration process for all NRM members. The President expressed his commitment to returning to the people with appropriate solutions at the right time.

Despite these challenges, the registration process yielded a significant number of new members, with reports indicating a membership of up to 18.3 million. President Museveni commended NRM members for their enthusiastic response to the registration program. He acknowledged this as a positive step forward in an ongoing process aimed at strengthening the party’s membership base and organizational structure.
