Museveni’s Skilling Initiative Impacts Youth in Greater Mubende

Mubende, Uganda — Minister Judith Nabakooba Nalule expressed gratitude towards President Yoweri Museveni for establishing Skilling Hubs closer to communities, providing opportunities for youth. These hubs aim to equip young people with vocational skills necessary for employment and economic participation. Nabakooba commended Museveni’s vision for a skilled nation and praised the initiative’s expansion beyond Kampala.

The minister’s remarks came during the graduation ceremony of 448 youths from the Greater Mubende Presidential Zonal skilling hub. These youths, drawn from various administrative units including Mityana, Mubende, Kassanda, Kiboga, and Kyankwanzi districts, received certificates in seven vocational disciplines such as tailoring, hairdressing, construction, welding, baking, and leather processing.




Nabakooba urged the graduates to appreciate their privilege and encouraged them to share their skills with others. She emphasized the significance of humility in job seeking and the importance of passing on knowledge to create more skilled individuals within communities.




Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for the Central region, emphasized parental support in furthering their children’s skills. He urged parents to invest in tools or equipment for their children’s chosen vocations, citing President Museveni’s initiative in providing free skills training.




The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries including State House officials, local government representatives, religious leaders, and security officers. It highlighted the government’s commitment to youth empowerment through initiatives like the Skilling Hubs, which aim to integrate young people into the country’s economy.

The success stories of the graduates underscored the impact of the skilling program. Students like Namakula Bridget, Kisekka Ronald, Maruti Daniel, and Musinguzi Jordan shared their experiences of finding employment and utilizing their skills in various fields. Their testimonies reflected hope, gratitude, and the tangible benefits of vocational training in transforming lives and communities.
