Fun Factory’s Big Sunday Comedy Show Marks 20 Years of Laughter

Fun Factory, one of Uganda’s most prominent comedy groups, is celebrating two decades of weekly comedy shows with the Big Sunday Comedy Show on October 1, 2023, at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the National Theatre, attended by Fun Factory members, the media, and well-wishers.

The show will bring together comedy enthusiasts to commemorate the laughter shared with the comedy group, starting from their origins at TLC in 2003 to their weekly ‘Comedicine’ show, a Thursday tradition at the National Theatre.

The event will feature performances by some of Uganda’s top comedians, including Richard Tuwangye, Isaac Kuddzu, Frobisher Lwanga, Veronica Kiwanuka, Dickson Zizinga, and others.

Richard Tuwangye, a founding member of Fun Factory, expressed, “Big Sunday is going to be an extraordinary grand comedy show to celebrate 20 years of weekly comedy. Our journey has had its ups and downs, but our greatest pride lies in bringing laughter to millions of Ugandans.”

Fun Factory’s weekly sketch comedy shows began in October 2003 under the guidance of University Lecturer and theatre expert Philip Luswata. They gained significant recognition in 2007 with NTV’s “BarbedWire,” the only sketch comedy show on TV at the time, which aired every Sunday at 7:30 pm.

Tuwangye added, “This is a dream come true for us, to see just how far we’ve come and how much we’ve grown as artists after 20 years of weekly comedy. We appreciate all those who have supported us throughout the years.”

The show is proudly sponsored by Uganda Waragi, a long-standing supporter of comedy in Uganda, having also supported various other comedy shows, including Alex Muhangi’s Comedy Store UG, Salvador’s Africa Laughs, Madrat and Chiko’s Nseko Buseko, and MC Kash’s ‘Laugh with Owakabi,’ among others.
