Police in Mbarara City are investigating the sudden death of Nahwera Prossy, a 20-year-old first-year Business Administration student at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).
Nahwera’s body was discovered in her hostel room at Hope Hostels in Kiswahiri Cell, Kakoba Ward, on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
Nahwera had returned from holiday on January 26th and was last seen alive by her roommate, Atuhaire Leticia, on the night of January 27th. Before going to bed, Nahwera told Atuhaire that she would not be attending lectures the following day.
The following morning, Atuhaire left for her lectures after an unsuccessful attempt to wake Nahwera, assuming she was still asleep. Upon returning around 3:00 PM, Atuhaire found Nahwera still in bed and unresponsive.
After several more attempts to wake her, Atuhaire alerted neighbors and the hostel landlord, who contacted medical officers. The medical team confirmed Nahwera’s death.
Nahwera’s body was found in a supine position, dressed in a flowered nightdress and covered with a bedcover. Preliminary findings indicated no visible signs of violence or physical injuries.
SP Kasasira Samson, PRO Rwizi Region, confirmed the incident and assured that a thorough investigation is underway.
The body has been transported to the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
