Defence Ministry Unveils New National Enterprise Corporation Board

NEC, established in 1989 by an Act of Parliament, serves as the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF, producing goods and services through its subsidiaries and joint ventures.

The Ministry of Defence has appointed a new Board of Directors for the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), tasking them with ensuring the prosperity, growth, and long-term sustainability of the organization. The announcement was made on Wednesday at NEC headquarters in Bugoloobi, Kampala.

Gen (Rtd) Joram Mugume, the new Board Chairman, praised the outgoing board for their hard work and dedication, which significantly improved NEC’s performance and led to notable achievements.




NEC, established in 1989 by an Act of Parliament, serves as the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF, producing goods and services through its subsidiaries and joint ventures.




The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth, inaugurated the new board and emphasized the importance of accountability, stating that it breeds acceptance and respectability by investors. He highlighted that business prosperity and accountability should be at the forefront of every corporation’s strategic thinking, planning, and activity.

A press release from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MoDVA) indicated that the minister also directed the Board to align NEC’s activities with the goals of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and contribute to Uganda’s development as mandated by the Constitution.

Lt Gen James Mugira, NEC’s Managing Director, expressed optimism about the new board, stating that the corporation will greatly benefit from the diverse expertise of its members. “Our management team looks forward to working closely with the board to take NEC to greater heights,” he said.
