President Museveni Urges MPs to Support Free Education for Poverty Reduction

President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has requested Members of Parliament to support him and advocate for free education if they want the country to overcome poverty.

He addressed over 300 MPs who attended the first parliamentary sitting held in Gulu City at Kaunda Ground.




President Museveni was honored alongside the mighty UPDF by the Members of Parliament for the prevailing peace in Northern Uganda.




Omoro Woman MP Hon. Lamwaka Catherine highlighted the issue of street children in the area.




The Chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group, Hon. Judith Alyek, who is also the Kole District Woman MP, thanked His Excellency the President for the prevailing peace in Lango, Acholi, West Nile, and the Karamoja subregion.

Hon. Nakut, the Woman MP for Napak District, mentioned that in 2006, the UPDF initiated a revolutionary spirit of disarmament in the Karamoja subregion. She added that, over seven consecutive years, the UPDF successfully conducted a second disarmament exercise in Karamoja. Hon. Nakut emphasized that the withdrawal of the UPDF should be gradual to ensure Karamoja remains integrated with the rest of the country.

Hon. Jessica Ababiko, the Adjumani Woman MP, expressed appreciation to the President for his efforts towards peace in the region and prayed that God continue to bless him.




The motion to honor His Excellency was adopted unanimously by the Members of Parliament.
