Roselyne Chemutai, Kween District – Concerned locals in Ngenge Sub-County, Kween District, Sebei Region, have requested that President Museveni assign a trusted team to investigate the Ngenge and Atari dams to determine whether the millions of shillings spent on them were justified.
Speaking to this publication on Friday morning, Mr. Twala Chesol, a resident, said the Ngenge dam was constructed by the Ministry of Water and Environment, while the Atari dam falls under the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
“We need government oversight to ensure these projects are handled seriously because these officials are just pocketing money, that’s all,” he said.
Mr. Twala claims that the Ngenge dam, constructed by the Ministry of Water, only retains water during the rainy season and dries up during the dry season.
Enock Chemonges, another resident, stated that the construction of these two dams is affecting the normal flow of water from the mountains down to farmers in the lower Ngenge area.
“There is a need for a thorough investigation into these projects because it seems like people are just benefiting from the funds with poor workmanship,” he said.
