The LC.3 Chairman for Northern Division in Kabale Municipality, Mr. Isaac Mucunguzi Rushoga, has cautioned enumerators of the 2024 National Population and Housing Census against being drunk while on duty.

Mr. Rushoga sounded this caution today as he flagged off a total of 28 enumerators and their six supervisors at the Division headquarters in Kabale Municipality.

He emphasized that consuming alcohol could destabilize their minds and reduce their ability to concentrate on the tasks assigned to them. “This activity involves a lot of counting and record-taking, coupled with numerous movements from place to place, especially on sunny days. Such situations require you to be sober enough for maximum concentration,” he said.

Additionally, Mr. Rushoga cautioned enumerators against working at night and advised them to safeguard the government-owned gadgets provided for the Census exercise to prevent exposure to robbers. He also stressed the importance of dressing decently, particularly for female enumerators, to avoid attracting criminals.

The event marked the end of nine days of training for the enumerators on how to conduct the 2024 census, which starts on the night of May 9 and ends on May 20, 2024.

The enumerators and their supervisors received training from the Principal Assistant Town Clerk, Ms. Isabella Ndahura Akiiki, and the Community Development Officer, Peace Kiconco Kayabukye.

Chairman Rushoga handed over Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) appointment letters to each enumerator and urged them to keep the letters safe. He emphasized that the letters not only identify them to the public but also serve as legal proof of their employment by the Government of Uganda on a short-term appointment from May 9 to May 20, 2024.

According to the appointment letters, enumerators will be entitled to a daily payment of Ugandan Shillings 50,000 for the ten days they will be in the Census field.
