Anita Among, the Speaker of Parliament, expressed her sincere appreciation to His Excellency President Kaguta Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni, visiting Speakers and Presiding Officers, as well as High Commissioners and Ambassadors, for gracing the State of the Nation Address with their presence.

Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, made her stance clear: the Eleventh Parliament, under her guidance, would not yield to intimidation.

Addressing the gathered members of Parliament on Thursday, June 6, 2024, just before President Yoweri Museveni’s State of National Address at Kololo grounds, Among took stock of Parliament’s activities throughout the fiscal year.

President Museveni’s arrival, marked by the ceremonial signing of the visitors’ book, signaled the commencement of the State of National Address. Among welcomed him with the decorum befitting the occasion.

In a speech laden with the weight of responsibility, Among acknowledged the inherent risks of leadership. Criticism, opposition, and even rejection are all par for the course. Yet, she asserted, it is the duty of leaders to stand firm, guided by the belief that history will remember their contributions to society.

The State of Nation Address, Among noted, serves as both a reflection and a projection. It is a time to celebrate past achievements and confront future challenges. With the Eleventh Parliament nearing the end of its tenure, it is also a moment for introspection and planning for the road ahead.

During the third session of the Eleventh Parliament, Among recounted, the focus remained on transforming Parliament into a beacon of independence and people-centric governance. Key functions such as legislation, oversight, representation, and appropriation were diligently pursued.

The diligent attendance of several legislators underscored the gravity of the proceedings. It was a testament to the importance placed on parliamentary affairs by the nation’s elected representatives.

Among detailed the legislative achievements of Parliament, boasting of 47 Bills enacted into law, 42 resolutions passed, and numerous ministerial statements and questions addressed. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja’s responsiveness to inquiries further exemplified the government’s commitment to transparency.

Guided by principles of efficiency and effectiveness, Parliament endeavored to streamline its operations. Reduced turnover times for House business demonstrated a dedication to expeditious decision-making.

In closing, Among issued a rallying cry to her colleagues, urging them not to be swayed by the clamor of detractors. In the face of adversity, she implored, the spirit of progress must prevail.
