The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party is set to honour and reward its members who have successfully recruited and persuaded individuals from other political parties to join the NRM ranks. The recognition and awards ceremony is scheduled to take place during the upcoming NRM Day, according to information obtained by The Ankole Times.
Jim Muhwezi, the Security Minister and Rukungiri district NRM party chairperson, disclosed this information over the weekend while officially welcoming Eric Nabasa Kayangi, a former mobilizer for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), into the NRM. Kayangi made the switch after two decades of supporting the opposition party.
Muhwezi emphasized that Kayangi is not the first to transition from Ruhinda to the ruling NRM, highlighting that several others who were once staunch supporters of the FDC have now aligned themselves with the NRM. The shift in allegiance has been attributed to the efforts of individuals such as Martin Mwambusya, Can. Ben Turamye, and Posiano Ngabirano.
According to Muhwezi, recognizing the patriotic contributions of these individuals is essential, and the party plans to express its gratitude by awarding them with medals during the upcoming event.
Eric Nabasa Kayangi, hailing from Kajwomushana in Ruhinda sub-county, officially declared his allegiance to the NRM in a ceremony attended by Muhwezi and district chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama. Kayangi stated that he believes the FDC offers no future for him or the country, and he has now embraced the NRM’s vision.
Jim Muhwezi praised the recruitment of Kayangi, considering it a significant achievement and a foundation for fostering development in Rukungiri. Kayangi, in turn, expressed his commitment to mobilize other FDC supporters in Rukungiri to join the NRM, further strengthening the party’s presence in the region.
