Businesses in Nyakyera town council, Ruhama East Ntungamo district have been terrorized by a gang of thugs who have been breaking into shops and homes.

The latest incident occurred on Thursday night, when the thugs raided the Omukatoogo Trading Center and Nyakyera Town Council, looting items worth millions of shillings.

One of the victims, Twesigye Dickson, said his electronics shop was looted, and he lost goods worth over 1 million shillings.

The thugs are said to break into their targets by breaking windows, removing bricks, or other means.

The community has attributed the thefts to idleness among the youth, who spend their time smoking marijuana and other drugs. They also say that security patrols have been lax, which has emboldened the criminals.

The mayor of Nyakyera town council, Nganwa Kenneth Rubatuhura, has confirmed the incidents and promised to work with the police to apprehend the suspects.

He urged the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
