NUP Kisoro Chairperson Pays Tribute to Fallen MP Ssegirinya

National Unity Platform (NUP) Chairperson for Kisoro District, Laban Nsibomana, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Mohammed Ssegirinya.

Lubaga Hospital confirmed that the late Ssegirinya, popularly known as “Mr. Update,” succumbed to illness on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 12:10 PM. He had been battling health issues for nearly two years. Ssegirinya’s death has sent shockwaves across Uganda’s political landscape, with many expressing grief and admiration for his service.




Nsibomana stated that the loss of Mohammed Ssegirinya is not only a personal tragedy for his family and friends but also a significant blow to the NUP and Ugandan politics as a whole. Ssegirinya’s voice was a powerful advocate for the underrepresented.




Nsibomana further emphasized that Ssegirinya leaves behind a legacy of service, advocacy, and a profound connection with his constituents. He served as a symbol of resilience and hope for many in Uganda, particularly those in the urban poor communities of Kampala.




Nsibomana called for collaboration and cooperation within the NUP leadership as a crucial step towards achieving success in the 2026-2031 general elections.

Born in Butale, Kadugala, Masaka District, Mohammed Ssegirinya rose from humble beginnings to become a powerful voice for the marginalized. He was known for his passionate approach to politics, often focusing on grassroots issues like poverty alleviation, healthcare, and education.

His journey, from a local councilor to representing Kawempe North in the Ugandan Parliament, was marked by his relentless efforts to serve his community. Ssegirinya passed away at the age of 37.
