NUP has successfully conducted party mobilization campaigns in various districts, including Mbarara, Kabale, Luweero, Mayuge, Busia, Mbale, Arua, and Hoima.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has initiated mobilization efforts ahead of the Dokolo District Woman MP By-election, unveiling approximately 300 mobilizers. Led by the party’s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, a delegation met with mobilization committees from all 14 sub-counties in the district.

The mobilizers were tasked with attracting new members to the party in preparation for voting in the forthcoming by-election. Rubongoya emphasized that this initiative showcases NUP’s nationwide presence, extending beyond central Uganda.

While one individual has already expressed interest in contesting the by-election, Rubongoya stated that the party will hold a primary election if more candidates emerge.

Asega Habib Jogo, NUP’s deputy secretary of mobilization for Northern Uganda, cautioned security forces against intimidating their mobilizers, asserting NUP’s legitimacy as a political party entitled to mobilize its structures without hindrance.

In a parallel event, the NRM party unveiled Janet Adongo Elau as its official candidate for the Dokolo By-election, despite six other individuals expressing interest in the position. During the NRM’s mobilization meeting, two candidates withdrew their candidature, while five others opted to run as independents.

Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, the party’s director of mobilization, urged aspiring independent candidates to reconsider their decision, citing conflicts within the party as detrimental to success in by-elections.

Emmanuel Dombo, the NRM’s Spokesperson, urged independent candidates with NRM leanings to support the party’s flag bearer, emphasizing that the election serves the party’s interests rather than individual ambitions.

The Dokolo district by-election is scheduled for March 21, 2024, following the passing of Imat Cecilia Atim Ogwal, the former Woman MP for the district.
